Dr. C.L. Allgood, Sr.
|
Conrad Lacunious Allgood, Sr. (b. January 28, 1886, Anderson County, South Carolina; d. December 22, 1963 Dublin, Georgia) married (1st) Lucy Goodman Faulkner (b. November 5, 1890, Cherokee County, Georgia; d. October 30, 1947 Scottdale, Georgia) on November 14, 1912 in Jasper, Georgia. Conrad's second marriage was to Mary Jane Farmer (b. August 20, 1889; d. February 10, 2002) on September 6, 1949 in DeKalb County, Georgia (no children from this marriage). Conrad was from a large family. There were 14 family members including himself; his father, Edward Freeman Allgood; his mother, Elizabeth Patience Rogers; and his 11 brothers and sisters. Dr. Allgood was a graduate of The Atlanta School of Pharmacy and received his M.D. degree from Atlanta College of Physicians and Surgeons (now Emory University). He served in WWI as a 1st Lt. with the 4th Pioneer Division. Upon honorable discharge he returned to Emory University for post graduate work and at the same time maintained his practice of medicine in DeKalb County, Georgia for almost 38 years. Dr. Allgood served his community as a physician and was active in civic and religious affairs. He served as a member of the DeKalb County Board of Education from 1920 to 1944. Upon retirement Dr. Allgood moved to Darien, Georgia where he quickly became a familiar and beloved member of that city. Conrad and his wife, Lucy Goodman Faulkner, had eight children. All were born in DeKalb County, Georgia with the exception of Virginia who was born in Cherokee County which was a temporary residence while he served in World War I.
